A few weeks ago, I had the incredible privilege of joining TryHackMe’s company retreat in beautiful Sardinia, Italy. It was beyond an honor to be invited to speak about how the platform played such a vital role in my journey from nursing and advertising into cybersecurity—a journey that’s been both exhilarating and challenging. And, as they say, the third time’s the charm!
When I first decided to pivot into cybersecurity, I was eager to dive into all things cyber. I was introduced to TryHackMe, where I quickly got lost (in the best way) in learning about potential career paths and discovering tools with which I would soon gain hands-on experience. Having spent much of my life in a learning environment, I can confidently say that TryHackMe stands out. Its engaging, interactive approach fueled my passion for cybersecurity and motivated me to keep coming back for more. It helped me form a strong foundation of skills and knowledge that I continue to build upon now.
Meeting the talented, dedicated team behind TryHackMe in Sardinia added a whole new layer of appreciation. Their enthusiasm for cybersecurity, combined with their genuine passion for making learning accessible and enjoyable, was apparent in every conversation. The team was not only brilliant but also incredibly kind and approachable, with a commitment to the product and its users that’s evident in the thought, care, and passion they pour into it.
This retreat was also a powerful reminder that TryHackMe is not just a learning platform; it’s a vibrant, supportive community. Both the people behind it and the users genuinely care about empowering others to grow and succeed. For someone like me, who entered cybersecurity through a non-traditional path, this sense of community has been incredibly meaningful.
Reflecting on my experience at the retreat, I feel extremely grateful—not just for the invitation but for the opportunity to be part of something so special and impactful. I’m excited to watch TryHackMe continue to push boundaries, innovate, and build impactful products.
I left Sardinia feeling deeply inspired and more driven than ever to continue on my cybersecurity journey. Curiosity and a love of learning have always been part of my DNA, and discovering cybersecurity through this lens reassured me that I’m right where I’m supposed to be.
